The Shocking Truth About Raw Milk and Government Lies, few of us were around when the campaign against raw milk began. In 1945, Coronet magazine published an article titled “Raw Milk Can Kill You,” blaming raw milk for a fictional brucellosis outbreak in a non-existent town called Crossroads, U.S.A. The story was entirely fabricated but led to laws banning the sale of raw milk, starting with Michigan in 1948.
In 2007, John F. Sheehan of the FDA prepared a PowerPoint maligning raw milk, presented at the National Conference on Interstate Milk Shipments. However, the fifteen reports he cited were deeply flawed. Some lacked evidence of raw milk consumption, while others didn't even document actual outbreaks. None proved that pasteurization would have prevented the incidents.
Fast forward to today, and we're seeing similar misinformation with claims of bird flu in dairy cows. A recent press release by the USDA, FDA, and CDC linked unpasteurized milk to highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) in cows, urging against raw milk consumption. However, no viruses were actually found in the milk, and the type of test used was not disclosed. It's likely they used the PCR test, which can yield false positives through excessive amplification.
The narrative that raw milk transmits HPAI to humans is unsupported by scientific evidence. According to biologist Peg Coleman, there is no proof that HPAI in raw milk causes human disease. Raw milk contains bioactive components that destroy pathogens and strengthen the gut wall, benefits lost in pasteurized milk.
Despite government warnings, raw milk sales are booming. Consumers are skeptical of official statements and can see through the lies. This latest bird flu scare is just another fabricated story, like the Crossroads tale, aimed at undermining the raw milk industry.
Take Action
Contact the USDA at Aphispress@usda.gov and ask them to provide proof of the isolation of the HPAI virus in the milk of sick cattle. Demand transparency about the testing methods used. Don’t let misinformation dictate your choices—educate yourself and make informed decisions about the food you consume.
